Our team, for the first time in its 50-year history, has a coach. His name is Jay Sterne, and he is the former head coach of SUNY Maritime's varsity sailing team. Mr. Sterne was a captain of the Old Dominion University team in college, and sailed there with guys like Mitch Brindley (Current ODU head coach) and Terry Hutchinson (America's Cup tactician and multiple world champion). Under Mr. Sterne's leadership, SUNY Maritime rose from obscurity to become the 3rd-ranked sailing team in the country, winning the War Memorial trophy and many other events. He is also the former graduate secretary of the Intercollegiate Sailing Association, the national governing body of the sport. In short, we are extremely lucky to have Mr. Sterne onboard.
